There are many ways to spruce up your outdoor patio area and outdoor patio umbrellas are tops on the list. Its that time of year when being outside is relaxing and a meditating experience. Outdoor umbrellas are great for making the area look better and well utilized for sunny days or relaxing evenings by the moonlight. A brightly colored patio umbrella will really bring a dreary garden to an uplifting patio area in no time flat. The selection process for buying the right outdoor patio umbrella can be a bit tricky but I will show you how to go about doing this the right way. There are several types of patio umbrellas which include wood, wind resistant and aluminum. The wood patio umbrellas also known as market umbrellas are the original outdoor umbrella . They are made of sturdy wood design and operate with the old style push and pin. The canopy support arms are made of wood as well.

wood outdoor patio umbrellas are a very popular umbrella and perfect for use in commercial atmospheres. The reason for this is there is a significantly less amount of pieces being moved which drastically cuts down on wear and tear for this type umbrella. The push pin lift system was also replaced with the pulley system that you see today which makes opening and closing of the patio umbrella much easier to do. The pulley is setup through a crank which is used to open and close with relative ease. Its a great option for most residential settings and I personally have this type as well. I simply love mine and have no trouble opening and closing it. There is nothing better than having a lovely calm and relaxing evening on my patio sitting at my table under the umbrella.

The aluminum outdoor umbrella is a much more recent and updated patio umbrella on the market. This type is a bit more contemporary in looks and styling. It has the updated crank system for easy operation. Much lighter in weight than the wood yet very sturdy and reliable. they also go great with aluminum patio furniture. This type umbrella has a tilt feature as well so you can keep the sun off of you no matter what time of day it is. One thing to point out is that these aluminum patio umbrellas will not rust and can come in a variety of colors. The umbrella itself can be made out of canvas which is very durable and long lasting.

The first two umbrellas are usually bought based on want but the last type I want to talk about, the wind resistant patio umbrella is bought solely on need. Your decision to buy a wind resistant umbrella is due to living on windy conditions such as the beach. This type beach umbrella has fiberglass rib arms that will flex with the wind allowing you ample time to grab the ubmrella if it starts to blow away. The thought behind this is that unlike a wooden umbrella with wood rib arms that would just gust away or fall over the aluminum will have some give sort of like rubber so it flexes.

Offset Patio Umbrellas

The offset patio umbrellas add another element to an otherwise traditional style of umbrella. Most people setup their patio table umbrella in the center of the table to keep the table shaded and to also offer support for not only the table but the umbrella itself. This is great in theory but you are really only shading the table itself not the guests around it. So to tackle this issue in a better way an offset umbrella can be used to be setup anywhere you like as it is supported by its own base away from the table. This works great and you can angle the umbrella up to 360 degrees if you wish.

The first order of business when buying a patio umbrella is to measure your area whether its to cover a table and chairs or just to setup in the yard or back porch area. If you are going to be covering a table and chairs you need to measure from the middle of the table to the edge and then double that for umbrella coverage. It would be a great idea to position the chairs as if they are in use so that you make sure you get sufficient coverage when someone is actually sitting in them. Once you have determined the size umbrella you need next is to figure out whether you want wood or aluminum. Also you can decide if you want an offset patio umbrella to counteract the angle in the table. Wood is a little more traditional and aluminum is more modern with contemporary styling.

Next you want to pick your color and fabric for the umbrella itself. You basically have 3 choices in the fabric department. Olefin which is a cheaper and more economical fabric is probably the most common choice and comes with a 1 year warranty against fading. Suncrylic is a dyed acrylic fabric that also has a 1 year warranty and is also economical. The most sun resistant to fading and probably the wisest choice on the market is the Sunbrella. This type is the most expensive but by far the best warranty, 3 years against fading and is made of a marine grade fabric that is water resistant. If you are going to have an umbrella up all year round and live in pretty extrmeme climates then I suggest the Sunbrella patio umbrella for sure.

Now that you have several options the last thing to do is go out and buy your new market umbrella for your home today. Get online shop prices and reviews and decide which is best for you. I can tell you that there are many options and great prices online. These umbrellas are great for the beach as well and many people use them for beach umbrellas .
