Garage Shelving
68It’s a very common problem: a totally messy garage. Garage storage is something that is too often overlooked. I’d estimate that a good three out of every four garages are indeed quite a bit cluttered. Most people are content to just sort of ignore this problem. They think they will get to garage organizing another day but procrastination soon leads to years. Over time, they use this part of their house less and less until it becomes something akin to Aunt Edna’s attic full of antiques and garbage. Garage cabinets or storage cubes are desperately needed in this room of the house. But there is a solution that does not involve having a garage sale or simply throwing everything out. You won’t even have to sell the stuff on eBay. What I’m talking about is garage shelving which will help you organize just about everything except the biggest items lying around in your garage. Garage shelving systems can help you restore the cleanliness and the order that every garage needs.
Garage Shelves
Nowadays people use their garage for so many different functions. In the past it was merely where you parked your car, but of course its function has majorly evolved over the decades up until now. It is a weight room, a work station, a storage shed, a wood shop, and all manner of other things. (And still people try to fit their cars in there!)With garage storage shelves and garage storage cabinets you can restore order and organization in a much disorganized part of the house. We all have this problem at some point in our lives. Especially if we move into a new home. This is when we tend to leave boxes that are not essential to out daily living to stock up in the garage and we plan to get to them later. Later becomes decades and next thing you know your garage is a storage closet full of junk. cube storage systems and garage shelving is the perfect solution to tidy up your garage.

So the problem becomes one
of how to better utilize all of this space. The eye can deceive you
when it tells you that there is nothing you can do. You see the floor
cluttered up: every last square inch of it. What to do? As I said earlier,
the only good solution I am aware of is to install some garage shelving.
Once you do this you can throw everything up on these shelves and get
them out of the way. Plastic storage bins also can help utilize the shelving and be stored and put up as well. This allows you to get seasonal items like Christmas ornaments and decorations tidy and out of the way but yet easy to get to when it becomes needed. But you will have to take a couple things into
consideration first.
Garage Shelving Units
The chances are good that you
will either be using wood or metal to make your garage shelving unit. (Of course,
you may be buying them, but they will still be made of the same material.)
These will come in really every size imaginable to man. And if you want
them to extend further out from the wall, then you can just get bigger
angled braces to support the extra weight and extension. This is probably
a good idea because you know that all that “stuff” only seems to
grow in number and never shrink. So I’d suggest doing this job in
a big way and using a lot more shelf space than you need. Let’s say
that at least 50% unused space is a minimum so that you won’t possibly
have to add more shelves over the coming years. This is the best way
to ensure that everything will stay organized nice and neatly according
to your new garage shelving units.
Garage Storage
It’s important to do at least
a visual analysis of where the shelving can go. I’d suggest clearing
everything out onto your driveway if need be and then parking your car
inside. See where the most space between the border of the car and the
garage walls is. These will be your garage shelving
hot spots. (You
obviously can’t afford to drive your automobile straight into these
protruding edges.) There needs to be some kind of spacious room around the cars so that they do not get scratched, dinged or dropped on. A garage shelf is ideal for hanging all sorts of out of season items that are not used very often.
Garage Shelving
Now one thing to consider when building or buying garage shelving is that if you plan to do it yourself you make sure you have enough space to get everything off the ground. Even a closet organizer or plastic storage bin needs to be placed on a garage shelf not on the ground in the corner. The more you can get off the floor the better you will be and your garage for that matter. There are plenty of videos on how to build garage shelving and one of those tid bits I am gonna show you now so that you can get started right away and getting your home organization and garage organizing underway. Good Luck!
